Just One Question (Sphinx)
I had the unique pleasure of getting to tell two wide-eyed younger kids who visited my studio the story of the Sphinx, including asking them the famous riddle for the first time. I was delighted they hadn’t heard it before, and they were suitably stumped. When I told them the answer, they said that was dumb, and I replied they would have been eaten by the sphinx anyway. I do love it when ancient stories can continue to resonate forward: it’s a little magical that no matter how long the stories have been told, there’s still someone who’s hearing it for the first time (and having strong opinions about it).
