Hunt of the Unicorn Prints
The Hunt of the Unicorn is a trope in medieval European art where the pursuit of the mythical unicorn is used as a metaphor for the Crucifixion of Christ, the marriage of a young man, and has continued to gain meaning and different interpretations over the centuries. The suffering, death, and eventual peaceful life/afterlife of the noble creature has inspired art from the Peter Beagle book The Last Unicorn to Shakespeare to allegories about the national identity of Scotland and beyond. So! I did a series of five 5×7″ paintings depicting aspects of the Hunt for myself, using the 15th century Unicorn Tapestries as inspiration. Here’s some prints!
Each print is 7×5″ and printed on lustre photo paper.
