Emma Goldman Portrait
I recently found the work of artist Thomas Little aka A Rural Pen, who makes writing ink from dissolved guns, and was instantly in love. I knew I had to grab a bottle, and to kick off using this gorgeous grey-purple, I did portraits of three people whose work I also admire. Emma Goldman was a Kaunas-born (then in the Russian Empire, now in Lithuania) anarchist, activist, and revolutionary active in the United States and, after being deported in 1919 for her political beliefs, across Europe and Canada. She was a prolific writer on many topics, including socialism, the new Soviet Union, feminism, homosexuality, prison and the military, voting rights, and atheism, and her groundbreaking observations on gender and politics are still influential today.
